Project description
The Smart Packaging was developed under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) project "Clay mineral – anthocyanin composite material sensors for food quality control", project identification No.: KC-PI-2020/11.
The project is implemented by the Faculty of Geography and Earth Sciences of the University of Latvia (UL).
Project duration:
Phase I of the project: 01.04.2020–30.09.2020
Phase II of the project: 01.12.2020–30.06.2022
Project financing in the Phase I: EUR 27 777.78 (ERDF financing amount (90%): EUR 25 000.00, UL financing (10%): EUR 2 777.78)
Project financing in the Phase II: EUR 260 261.20 (ERDF financing amount (90%): EUR 234 235.08, UL financing (10%): EUR 26 026.12)
The aim of the project is to develop fully functional and commercially available sensor technology of clay mineral – anthocyanin composite material for food quality control and, as a result, to sell the sensor technology licence.
Results of Phase I of the project: prototypes of sensor technologies have been improved, feasibility study and commercialization strategy have been developed (30.11.2020, positive Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) decision on documents developed by the University of Latvia – permit and support the second stage of the UL implementation project).
Results of Phase II of the project: the expected results of Phase II of the project include the development of a sensor prototype for food packaging, an insert for standardized food packaging, the development of a smart sensor manufacturing process and commercial offers.
